Shingo Mama

This is a pretty standard WTFJS video, you've got your man in a dress, dancing kids, weird choreography, but it reaches a whole new level of epic at 2:00. They throw in a little godfather of soul.
Thanks to Lily for sending this in.

  4. Shingo is a famous boy-band guy (band called SMAP). Cameos by his former band mates are in there. Basically it's saying good morning everyone, breakfast is important.

Check him out in the NHK historical drama Shinsengumi. He's totally cool.

  7. I believe the "Japanese rasta" at around 1:20 was one of their Olympic snowboarders.

  13. I should also point out that this was produced about 2000 by Konishi Yasuharu (Pizzicato Five). It even includes his trademark drum roll at the beginning and end. The character is based on a role from a variety show that SMAP members usually are found infesting since 1990.

For a similar theme, look for Geisha Girls (comedy team Downtown, produced by Towa Tei).

  14. I also like that at one point they do the dance from the 3 Amigos, and then finish it with the arm raising from Thriller. Now that's fine choreography.

  22. Some of the music sounds a lot like a song by Freddie Cannon from the early 60s; the one about making dedications on the radio...

  23. The young girl with ponytails in the yellow t-shirt is absolutely adorable.

    Too cute for words.

  24. It sounds like they're singing about getting up in the morning, eating their breakfast, and different members of their family. I could be wrong... I'm just learning Japanese, but that's what I'm picking up. It looks like a kid's show. I think we need to send them Barney and some of our scary stuff, just to get even.

  27. Was living over there when this came out (2000-2001) - and yes like others have commented above the youngest member of SMAP (famous boy band) did this. The SMAP boys were in dramas and other variety show along with the SMAP variety show that was on every Monday night. Think it was in the last couple of years one member was in trouble for drink driving.

    'Oh ha' - what memories!
