Mean TV Prank

I love Japanese prank shows because they can get away with a lot more than is allowed on American TV. They walk a precarious line between hilarity and cruelty and occasionally things get ugly. I think that when people start developing PTSD it might have been taken a smidge too far.

  8. I seem to remember Derren Brown doing something similarly terrible to this, on British TV, involving hypnotism and zombies. Fun times.

  12. @Anonymous Too risky, though. If you had this in america the tricked person would pull out his own gun and start shooting.

  14. I don't know. I think this video is REAL. Yep, I said it.

    Why?

First off, he's a TV show celebrity (and in Japan they tend to be a bit girly, without showing it-- mostly the older men). So he wouldn't exactly stand up for himself! Especially if his life is on the line and nobody is watching (nobody sees, no embarrassment).

Second, it's just a video. If it's fake (which I doubt), it was entertaining. Youtube video's job accomplished.

  17. Most people getting pranked on TV are comedians. In Japanese TV industry it is considered acceptable to pull some cruel/hilarious pranks on younger comedians. Senior comedians rarely receives such treatment although they went through it when they were younger. The people love it too. And yes... its all real... I grew up watching these shows since i was a kid.
