  3. I want this. This would be the most awesome gag present to give as a gift to someone. It would also need a built in speaker to play that perfectly matching BGM. This isn't sold anywhere is it? It looks self made...

  18. This is actually a very old idea, and I've seen several futility machines like this in american woodshops, the oldest one being at least 30 years old.

This isn't a 'Japan wtf', it just happens to be a japanese video of an old idea.

  21. Cute, I saw this advertised on another site but didn't watch it there.
I wouldn't mind having one of these if the face could actually change like that :)
Someone should utilize this technology for something, like if you could hide stuff inside and the box would keep closing unless you knew the secret to stopping the trigger. It'd be a cute little storeage compartment that I would totally buy! :3

  22. thats so cool.................not.

  23. hey everyone posting about that other box that also closes itself . .. if you watch this video to the end you will realize this is not the same. the other box did not run around, spin like mad, and then hide its switch.

lurk moar if your dumb enough to assume things that are incorrect

  52. THE ROOMBA'S EVIL COUSIN!!!!!!

  53. It's probably not something that most people appreciate. But what that box is called is a "Karakuri". It's amazing, because it's a bunch of gears, cams, and rods made out of paper that make it do that. It's used to teach physics to Japanese high school students. Karakuri's can be anything from that box that this video shows, to a paper penguin flapping its wings. Karakuri is awesome.

  54. IS there anywhere to buy one of these?

    ReplyDelete
  55. actually hared to make than it may seem....the electronics involved is pretty neat

    ReplyDelete
  56. Epic fail you can so tell that it isn't the same box each time....the video was done in movie editor to make it look like the it was....there is no way a wooden box emotion could really change faces people.

    1. of course there is - the letters are only held in position by some weak force - this force (static or something like that, maybe material friction) is overcome by the spinning and the pieces of paper, or whatever they are, are thrown into confusion. it's a deliberate part of the art meant to add to the curiousity.
